How to Look Your Best this Holiday Season

Look, we get it. It’s freezing outside, and all you want to do is hop into a warm pair of pajamas, cuddle up in a blanket and watch your favorite cheesy Christmas movies. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to get up and go do stuff. Life is hard.

Every once in a while, though, that ‘stuff’ you have to do requires a dazzling outfit, which is a great opportunity to remind yourself — and the world — that you’ve still got it! So don’t dread those holiday-themed parties and family get-togethers: it’s time for you to shine.

Here are some of the best holiday outfits sure to defrost your fashion game:

Winter Whites

Sure, it’s chilly, but there’s something wonderfully dreamy and romantic about the holiday season. You know what else is wonderfully dreamy and romantic? Ryan Gosling.

Oh, and an elegant outfit of winter whites.

Winter and white go together like Bonnie and Clyde — but you know, with less crime. To add some visual interest to this monochromatic pallet, try mixing and matching textures.

We recommend sticking with ordinary textiles for the majority of your outfit, then adding a burst of texture for some eye-catching contrast. Think fur, leather, suede, cable-knit, or any other visually striking textures. This will add a little pizzazz to your outfit without straying from the all-white look. Just don’t spill the wine!

Furry Jackets & Vests

Speaking of fur, it doesn’t have to be monochromatic. In fact, you can find faux fur in nearly any color imaginable, from white to black, burgundy, pink, and even Grinch green (although we don’t necessarily recommend it). Find yourself a furry jacket, vest or hoodie, and be the envy of everyone at the party. Isn’t that why you came out of hibernation in the first place?

If you’re feeling bold, try using furry outerwear to compliment your outfit! Maybe even some furry boots (a.k.a. boots with da fur). No matter what you choose, it’ll make for a fashionable, unapologetic look. It might even give you the confidence you need to stop fake-laughing at Uncle Dan’s ice-fishing stories.

Mixing Red & Black

When it comes to holiday colors, red is about as tried and true as it gets – so you may feel inspired to pull out your finest scarlet clothing. While we certainly won’t discourage this, we have one little suggestion to keep things fresh: pair that bright red with black for an edgy look!

So, go ahead — be bold and embrace this beautiful contrast. Combining passionate, romantic red with dark and mysterious black is not only dramatic, but a bit of a psychological twist. Are you getting a lump of coal this year, or a brand new sports car? Keep ‘em guessing!

Sweater Dress

How can you go wrong with this one? It’s the sophistication of a dress combined with the coziness of a sweater.

Sweater dresses offer several benefits over traditional dresses, including unmatched warmth and comfort — kind of like you never left the couch in the first place! These garments come in all sorts of styles and variations, so the possibilities are nearly endless. Find one that’s relaxed and loose-fitting for a more casual look, or something form-fitting to turn heads (and impress your crush).

Velvet

How many times a year can you get away with wearing velvet? Even Santa only breaks out his velvet suit once a year (…or does he wear it in everyday life? We’ll get back to you on that one). If you’re so inclined, you can have a lot of fun with this interesting material — so head to Turn Style and see what you can discover! Maybe a show-stopping red velvet dress? Maybe playful green velvet pants, or even a black velvet blazer?

Whatever velvet you come across, give it a try! You’ll look just as marvelous as the big man himself.

An Emerald Green Dress or Top

If you’re not feeling velvet this year, don’t worry (although we’re slightly disappointed). There are plenty of other ways to add some razzle-dazzle to your wardrobe. Look for something in emerald green — a color that’s timeless, sophisticated, and holiday-appropriate. For the shining tree topper of holiday outfits, find yourself a rich emerald green dress. Have you ever seen how spectacular an emerald dress can be? Talk about star power!

If a stunning dress isn’t in the cards, this enchanting color can also be found in fancy shirts. So don’t worry about missing out on the magic, whatever sort of emerald green you find, it’ll surely put you on the nice list! Or does Santa not judge by fashion? That would be weird.
