Red Carpet Fashion of 2017: Dressing Like a Star

Award season has arrived, which means that red carpet fashion is out in full force. With the Golden Globes behind us and the Oscars well on their way, we have even more glamorous, fashion forward looks to anticipate for this year’s Academy Awards.

This year’s red carpet style season began with Golden Globes fashion, which includes looks and statement pieces that are always above and beyond your typical prom dress. One of the more prominent looks featured a bit more of the Hollywood sparkle and shine than typically expected, and that is meant quite literally. Nicole Kidman’s Alexander McQueen dress sparkled with sequined accents and long sleeves, reminiscent of looks from 1950’s Hollywood.

Another example would be the regal Regina King in Romona Keveza, with similar effervescent silver covering her from head to toe.

A more contemporary look this season saw several actresses sporting a tuxedo style in lieu of a gown, reminding women and young girls that dresses aren’t the only style that can be glamorous. Evan Rachel Wood sported a stunning Altuzarra suit, Octavia Spencer chose a tailored Laura Basci suit, and Kathryn Hahn kept it sexy yet casual in a Brandon Maxwell suit with a leather bandeau peeking out underneath.

La La Land has swept many of the awards so far this year, including Emma Stone winning best actress in a musical or comedy. Her look became famous overnight, upholding the same glitz and glam seen throughout many of this year’s styles with the addition of a subtle rose pink under layer to her gown. She exemplified the look that encompassed this year’s Globes — elegant and subtle colors with bold and shimmering accents that made their red carpet fashion shine. The looks represent the actors themselves to a T.
